My transmission is leaking oil from where the bell housing and the engine meet up, and im pretty sure the main seal is to blame. I have very little time to fix it my self, but i doubt i have enough for some1 else fix this problem. Where on the priority list should this rank? its only a few drops every time i drive it (witch is very little because i have a spare car im driving while i fix the various things wrong with the 240) and how much Might a repair place charge?

You can replace the rear seal with the transmission in place, but the front requires a transmission pull. Quite a few hours labor ($$$). I would just top off the transmission every now and then, put a pan under it at night, and fix it when you need to do the clutch.

Are you sure it's transmission, and not the rear main engine seal? Those leak a lot. Transmission leaks aren't generally dependent on driving, unlike the engine seals.

It is leaking where the trans meets up with the engine, so thats what led me to believe its the front seal.

I thought you weren't supposed to top it off when putting trans oil in, i thought it was 2 5/8 quarts or some portion of the 3rd bottle

And i know its my trans leaking because i changed the oil a week ago to royal purple, and whats leaking is purple

I'd just go to one of those pull it yourself salvage yards. Ours up here usually sell transmissions at about 75 dollars. Set it aside until you need to do a clutch like scotty says and then swap out the transmission.

I think i might end up getting a salvaged one because my syncros is going out and the leak and just use the same clutch, i just replaced it a month ago, so its still good

If the transmission is close to toasted then yea drop another one in.

To top it off fill the transmission from the side hole until it starts to overflow, then put the plug back in.

Keep in mind that the bell housing is the lowest part of the trans. I had a leak that would travel all the way from the drain plug to the tip of the bell housing. It turned out I have a hairline crack in the case that is causing my leak. I'm just trying to throw another perspective your way before you go tearing your car apart.
