can you describe the type of noise it is making? vibration, grinding, pulsing, etc? Might help us get an idea...

just louder than expected.

you would think with a small car, it would be quieter.

The Versa's engine, once broken in, will produce a throatier sound than it did when new. The CVT shouldn't be noisy, but will produce a faint "whine" at low speeds, and is noisy in reverse (gear reduction). Every Nissan I have ever owned has been "loud," even my old 1999 Sentra. Nothing is wrong with your car.

If you want quiet, Pierce Arrow made one of the least audible motor vehicles ever; Inline 12, double flywheel, and about the size of two cadillacs.

My Versa w/CVT's got 22,000 miles on it, and I think both the engine and transmission are very quiet. The only time I really notice either is if I'm accelerating or going uphill with engine going above 3500 rpm. Cruising at 75mph and 2500 rpm, though, I have to think about it to hear either one.

A couple of times on my manualy transmission car I've had a respnance develop around 2500-3500RPM. I think there could be an issue with the engine mounts, but it only does it occasionally when the engine has been driven a little harder and the noise is only when under load. IF I ease up on the throttle it goes away and often doesn't return. It's very strange. THe dealer couldn;t duplicate it when I took it in for the passenger air bag replacement.

By "throatier sound," I'm referring to the exhaust note under heavy acceleration. When the car was new, it had a higher pitched exhaust note, but that went away after about 4,000 miles.

I do notice that while cruising around 1500RPM, the engine sounds a little rough and vibrates. It is more obvious when you just give as little gas as possible to maintain the cruising speed. In fact, some review also mentioned this.

I'm a little confused, why would a small car be quieter than a large car? Small cars are cheaper and tpyically have less sound reduction material and their small engines run higher RPM's to make their power.

I will note that with a manual, I don't like running under about 1600RPM, 1500 feels too low. It feels like it's lugging almost to the point of knocking. I always found it strange that automatics are set-up to run much lower than I would ever run with a manual. They often sound like they are lugging badly.

Automakers go through a lot of trouble to very significantly reduce noise and vibration. Less expensive cars usually don't get as good of a treatment. If you're worried, you could compare your car against another Versa -- you can go to a dealer for another "test drive".

There's lots of things it could be (dirty gas, wrong fuel air mixture, timing, bad engine mount...). If you otherwise think it's fine, on your next oil change you could try putting in a good synthetic, which usually gives better lubrication.

That sucks, my V does the same thing, it does not like to go slow.. Even jerks alittle when you accelerate. The article sounds right on in my opion.
