I have kind of a rubing or clicking sound coming from my transmission. It does it in every gear except 4th, and goes away when i push in the clutch. I changed the pilot bushing and throw out bearing hoping it was one of them, but nothing, clutch seemed to be in good shape so put the old one back in.

I searched around and only found one mention of it and it said that it was bearing inside the transmission. So now i'm looking for anyone who can help tell me if this is it, or if it could be something else. any help would be appreciated

4th gear is the only gear which doesn't spin the layshaft, so at least one of the layshaft bearings has to be shot if you get the noise in every gear but 4th gear.Have you looked at the transmission oil ever?

I actually just changed the transmission fluid a couple days ago, when i had it out to change throw out bearing. before that it has probly been at least 30k miles. when i just changed it the drain plug had some shavings on it, but nothing too major. i don't remember what the oil looked liked, was in a hurry.

The good news is that you did thr right thing, the bad news is that it didn't help your problem.Since the 'cheap fix' oil change didn't help, you need a rebuilt (or salvaged) transmission.

Mine does the same thing... I guess it's a pretty common problem these days...

The only real solutions I've heard are to replace the (said) bearings in the transmission (not only a PITA, but might as well replace more while you're in there) or to just get a used transmission from http://www.car-part.com or somewhere similar.

Hey, so I was on the NICO site searching for someone who’s had the transmission problem I have. I found a sound clip by SlowBack and can say I hear the same noises coming from the bellhousing area of my car. What was the problem and how do I fix it? I found the sound goes away if I just leave it in neutral and depress the clutch. When it’s in idle with the clutch closed, the noise is faint. When I put it in gear and drive the knocking gets horribly loud and now a squeal has added to the fun. This actually happens in all gears. The sound becomes less at a maintained speed, but any acceleration makes it real loud. Could my issue just be as simple as a bearing or fluid? Should I start saving for a replacement transmission? How long can I drive until something breaks?

what i found on mine is that i had bearings coming apart on the main shaft. it was cheaper for me to just get another transmission. so i picked up a used one and then went ahead and threw in a new clutch and flywheel since i was already in there. i drove around for about 500 miles with my transmission making all kinds of noise before i got time to swap them.all is good now
