Hey gang!

The transmission mounts that were done last week on my 94 transformed the car---so quiet, no vibs BUT BUT...four days later.

The vib is creeping back in. Could it be they are bad or can they come loose? (My techs said the motor mounts looked good). Infinity parts as far as I know.

IDEAs????

The Q has roughly 65 pounds of rubber products in it's construction. Replacing one tiny piece just shows the weakness of all the other aged degraded pieces.

I replaced my transmission mount and exhaust hangers (EH) a couple of months ago and am starting to feel the vibration coming back also, but no where near what I felt before replacing these.

Here's what I think: When you took out the mount and hangers did you notice that the EH rubber was sagging and maybe torn away from the bracket it was attached to? When I bolted everything back together with the new parts I noticed that the rubber on the new EH was already sagging.

IMHO, I think the design of these EH immediately causes their rubber to begin seperating from the brackets. I don't know if it takes 2 weeks or 2 years but I believe these begin to break down long before the transmission mount begins to compress, especially in the freezing weather that most of you are experiencing right now. Adding in some bumpy roads and a few potholes and the process speeds up. In fact, I think that most of the original vibration i felt was from the bad EH and not the transmission mount, even though it was fully compressed. I think a better design would have been for the EH to support the pipes from underneath rather than bolting on the sides of the pipes which puts a huge side load on the bonded area of the EH.

Of course, this is all just conjecture since I haven't been under the car to check the condition of the new EH. Maybe Dennis or another NICO member will let us know what their experiences are.

Can transmission and Engine mounts be done with out going to the shop?

I need to get mine done and would like to save some money if possible.

Try a search in Infiniti Mechanic Forum. It's tough but not impossible without a lift. Dangerous also if proper jacks and hoists not used.

the trans mount is easy and less dangerous... The engine mounts are a little different as you have to support the engine with an engine hoist. The trans you can just put a floor jack + jack stands under the trans and lift it up.
