Hi, I have 2006 M35X with 64K on it. Recently I have noticed that when I start my car and put in drive I hear a metal click sound coming from the car and when I drive i hear the same sound everytime transmission shifts gears. It never happened before, the sound came up like two weeks ago. ANY IDEAS?

Rear wheel area?

I had something that might be similar and the dealer had to replace one of my axles, at not cost cause of my warranty.

On RWD this is usually axle wear. Remove rear axle from rear hub, rotate 180 degrees, clean and re-grease and then re-install.

What Dean said. It seems to be common on our Ms.
I just had my mechanic service the rear axles. They are solid again.

Cool deal and thanks for the post---out of curiosity, what did he charge for the axle "rotation"? It wasn't difficult as I had the back end apart doing a full brake job but would still be curious if he broke down the cost.

For anyone who does this, like the FSM says---do not let the axle just drop down when removed from the hub. Support it at as close to the connected angle as possible while rotating/cleaning it off.

As long as you are back there with the car up on jack stands you might as well change the read end fluid also (I did).

He charged an hour and half labor.
Around $120. Does that seem fair?

Yep, that sounds pretty good.
