Transmission is out?

I have an automatic 95 s14. today after I got home pulled into the drive way put into reverse nothing happens. All it does is rev up. Don't know much about this but what could possibly be the problem? It was working rather good early in the day. Also all other gears engage properly but i don't have to press the button on the shift knob in order to go from reverse neutral to drive but i have to press it if i want to go to neutral and reverse. This is the first time this has happened, any help well be appreciated

Sounds electrical. There is a good diagnostics section for the AT in the FSM.

At first change transmission oil and check the level... if it will happen again - go to service

You can try to pull the plug for the auto transmission if it's the same as an s13 it should have 3 plugs by the fuse box in the engine bay pull off the top connection. Some people say it works for them. It didn't for mine and it's getting a 5spd.
