Any time I run it towards redline in second and try and go into third it grinds. I called a transmission place and they said they would have to rip apart the transmission ot say for sure, I'm calling B.S. on that one. I think it may be the synchro, but it is only in the higher rpm so I dont know for sure. Anybody else have this problem, and if so how can I fix it without having my transmission ripped apart. Preferably a somewhat cheap way to do this.

^agreed. It is most likely a synchro problem. Call junkyards to find a used one.

3rd gear synchro is dying...like mine:( Do whatever is more cost effective to fix it...most likely a used transmission (replacing the synchros is a beotch)

Friend had the same problem, are you pushing any boost?? just wondering. Also instead of just goin to replace it right now, try to be a little nicer when you shift into 3rd, hold the clutch down untill the stick has moved in gear for a sec or so, it will be a little slower, but atleast it wont grind like it has been.

^how much, and will it work on a '89 sohc? Gibbo needs a new transmission and I'd be willing to order it for him.

Gotta love those synchros. I'd say go with the used transmission also, much cheaper usually then a rebuild. My car likes to be a little picky on shifting sometimes too, but what do you expect for the age of these cars.

Are there any remedies that will help even a little bit. It's not too bad yet but i don't want it to get extremely bad. How much for a used transmission usually. And what about quality of the transmission how do i know it is in good shape.

If you go buy a used one... Well, dont really know how you could actually check to see how good it is. Make sure you know the miles on the car it came from and i dunno how but see if the person knows if it was driven hard, or by a mom that never got over 40 MPH.
