So i have an oil cooler line that is in my way. If i drop the transmission then it will in all probabbility crush the line... is there a way to move it or something i am missing? The service manual is VERY vague on this. Here is a picture from the manual to give you an idea. Its in the AT section on page 134 if anyone cares to give me some insite....

pic didn't work

remove the hard line. I am speaking from a standpoint of ignorance, but I'm sure the line can be fully removed. Our lines usually have a number of brackets on them held into the block/bellhousing with 10mm screws, make sure you have removed them all.

So after removing all of the brackets etc etc, the only way i could get it out of the way was to unhook it from both sides, and pivot the line toward the ground and hope that it does the trick. It looks like it may clear it but only time will tell. This is turning into a week long process. Is there a special technique to removing the two transmission bolts just below the top two? (at the 10 and 2 position). It is a 19MM Bolt and I can't get a wrench over it due to the sides of the transmission. I Can't get my 1/2 breaker bar in with a short socket on it, And even with a 4 foot cheater bar on the end of a breaker bar, the socket will not come out and I checked probably like 18 times to make sure I am going in the right direction with it. I can get the rest out but this seems to be a big problem. Any suggestions or special tools that I do not know about? I broke a regular socket on it, so I am using impact sockets now. I broke a reinforced swivel/universal trying to get a different angle so I am lost... Help???

When I replaced my transmission, I had to drop the back of the transmission down first, by unbolting the rear transmission mount cross member, in order to get enough space to get up in there to loosen those two bolts, with a 4+ foot extension. Make sure you remove the radiator hoses first if you'll have the engine drooping down that far in the rear. I do believe I cracked my radiator upper inlet by not removing the hoses before dropping my transmission. The radiator hoses are quite short and don't have a lot of play, coupled with older plastic inlets that can be quite brittle. Lessons learned and knowledge passed on.

Well good news for me, mine was broken prior to needing to replace my transmission so i took out my radiator before i started and now i am on to the transmission. So the trick is a 4 foot extension? did you use a short well or deep well 19mm socket?

I've done it. The secret is 4 12" 1/2 extensions, 19mm 1/2", and a HIGH QUALITY flex 1/2' drive piece. Short well socket, you're screwed without the flex.

We broke a Snap-On 3/8" adapter. You'll need 1/2".

Buying 52" of impact extensions tomorrow, and I have a 3/4 1/2" drive impact I am going to try to use. It is a 6 sided socket, and I have a really nice, heavy duty swivel so I think this should work... wish me luck!!!! Thanks for all of the input on this guys! it helps loads!!!!

If luck and all else fails to crack that nut, use a nice long breaker bar slipped over that ratchet. Leverage is the key to cracking those nuts.

I don't think impact will be necessary. I was able to get them broken loose pretty easily once i had the right tools in place:

1/2" 19mm non-impact socket (you don't want a soft socket that will twist)
1/2" flex piece
[4] 12" 1/2" extensions
1/2 Breaker bar (no ratchet). This is too much torque to put on a 1/2 ratchet, you'll slip and or hurt yourself, just use a breaker bar with 1/2 drive to break the bolt, then switch to the ratchet.

For reinstallation, you WILL need an assistant or monkey to just place fingers over the socket and keep it on the bolts as you chase the first threads. The flex piece will case the socket to fall off if you try this alone.

Too late lol. I bought everything in Pro-Impact and it is all rated for up to 900 LBS with a life time warranty. Here is my leaning tower of extensions lol.

and here is my awesome swivel with my 19mm short wall (also impact)

After the holidays are over, it's back to the grind and I'll have a chance to try them out. Wish me luck (for like the fifth haha)

I'm sure it'll do the job, but there is ALOT of bend between those extensions!

My biggest issue, doing this job ON THE GROUND (removing the transmission), was that I didn't have enough room to turn a breaker bar the required amount to break the bolts loose.

Impact parts twist, and are softer, so that will work against you.

If you're using a lift, doesn't matter.

Good luck! No mysteries here, just press forward.
