Basically whenever the car is moving in gear, the transmission makes somewhat of a growling/whining sound. Accelerating, decelerating, whenever. It also happens when I'm slowing down and I put it into 2nd or 1st gear.

I'm thinking it's a bearing wearing out, meaning I need to get a different used transmission on there, but the problem is in a couple days I need to make a trip back to school 300 miles away. Is it a possibility that the transmission could fail on my way over? I'd hate to be stranded with a broken transmission on the way over...

Transmission experts plz help me out here...

change the gear oil with a good gl-4 oil like redline mt-90. you may be lucky in that will take care of it. growling in all gears is prob a bearing noise. good thing about manuals is that they dont usually leave you stranded. if it takes a dump you may only loose one gear or something.
