Hi Guys,

I've got a really interesting question, I bought my 94 Q45 with 112,000 and right now it's got 123,800, after recently joining your site I became aware of the importance of changing all fluids in a timely manner. I called jiffy lube this morning to schedule an appointment to have my transmission flushed, filter changed and put in new fluid, to my amazement the tech at jiffy lube told me if this has never been done in the past they cannot do it once the car is past 100,000 miles. (I do not have that info on the car), is this a fact or should he be retrained.I'd really appreciate a response from all you techs out there.

Holla back!!!!!

It is common for high mileage AT to be held together by the worn out clutch material sealing internal leaks across seals.

Noone wants to get blamed for a transmission failure and of course owners will blame the last guy to work on the car................it is called EVERSINCE in the car repair business.

When a high mileage transmission is flushed [with solvent cleaners] or just changing the ATF there is always a chance of failure.

I always recommend a flush at 30k, 60k and 100k, starting to be good to a transmission for the first time at 100k is risky.....................not too risky on a Q but some chance of risk................all depends on the look of ATF [white paper towel test].

WE have never had a transmission failure [within a year] with a careful flush on a Q with 100k.

The secret is to be prepared to do it immediately again if the after flush ATF doesn't result in a perfect as new ATF color.

About half the trannies don't come out perfect and we recommend that the process is done over. But still we offer ZERO WARRANTY on the results if the AT fails driving away you are on your own. BECAUSE most people come in wanting a flush on an already failing transmission

We note the initial starting pressure from pump and record the flush time which tells you the internal condition of seals................if the flush takes more than 3.5-4.0 minutes there is internal damage and leaks.Learned from flushing HUNDREDS of Q45 transmissions.

A flush is worth it just to learn things and begin to estimate when the $3,000 will be needed for replacement.Cleaniness is next to godliness.

And as a corrolary to Q45tech's post, all fluids must be replaced before they are significantly worn.

All of the above is true, however I noticed a significant improvement in trans performance and shifting after having a trans flush in my GM 7L60E. Not saying that it would help you but it did help that one and it had well over 100K on it.
