Transmission Fluid?

1994 Q45I have been doing some basic maintance, checking fluid belts and stuff.My transmission fluid level was high, Im checking while engine is cold and looking at the cold side of metal meter level is an inch above full. This seems very high, it shouldnt be this high when its hot, Im I checking it correctly? The car is on level ground and I have checked over and over, with same results. The color is red and smells fine. Any help would be appriciated.

You are checking it wiht the engine running, right??

you are supposed to park on level ground, right before checking it shift through all gears, and then check.

Ok Im a moron, sorry.I was not checking it with engine running, I forgot the correct way to test it.I'll do it the right way now, thanks wes.
