Transmission fluid replacement

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Took my ex35 2010 in for my oil change and was told I needed to have my transmission fluid drained and replaced and also needed to perform rear differential service because fluids were dirty/contaminated for about $300.00...any opinions .. Vehicle has 47,000 miles and no problems...

I have 55k miles on my 08 EX35. It is optional to change it at 30k miles, but I believe 60k is the norm. If you look at the fluid color when you pull the transmission deep stick located at the very back of the intake plenum cover, does it look black to you? Mine is just a tiny bit darker gold. Like an engine oil.

$300 sounds a little high to me, unless you live in a really expensive area. Here in Northern NJ, my dealership charges around $160 for the transmission fluid change and under $70 for the differential fluid change.

I was hoping/planning on changing the ATF myself at 60K (along with other fluids). I wanted to do the differential fluid a little earlier, but I guess it'll happen around 60K also.

Sure, you have no problems yet. But these are maintenance items, which are supposed to prevent problems from occuring :) . It's up to you whether you want to wait or have the service performed at this time.

you can change your own differential fluid in about 15 minutes... Very very simple.

As NJGuy said, I think my local dealer charges $160 for the basis drain and refill, but I opted to do the flush & refill which ran close to $300. I've had good luck with a similar service (BG Flush) on several of my past cars which had higher mileage on them, so I'm a believer that this will help prolong the life of your transmission if done every 60k or so with regular fluid changes done every 30k.

Just my two cents.

Tim
