I had my transmission flushed every two years from my previos owner who was a NICO member (gloucester Q).

So if I do a drain and refill with any other sythetic brand will that be fine?

Obvliosly you can't mix sytnthetic and regular ATF right?

Should I compare MSDS to see what the differnces in the fluids are to achieve nearly the same composition of fluid so there is less of fluid mixing besides the old and new fluids?

I have done a drain and refill on the PS system according to Qship96' method and so far the fluid smell less burnt each time and the color is pure red.

Synthetic ATF is compatible with conventional ATF - Shouldn't be any problem in mixing them.

All ATF is synthetic. All the additives therein are synthetic. The question is how synthetic and the homogenity of the base oil.

The term syntheic is used to indicate PREMIUM Expensive to manufacture base oils which make up the bulk of all fluids.

More important to understand changes in viscosity vs changes in temperature. Base oil molecular size in Daltons [diameter of molecules]

If it smells burnt at all, then you are too late for the extraction (which is incomplete anyway with the engine not running and the rack powered to both extremes while simultaneously going from full lock to full lock).

You are a prime candidate for the low pressure hookup and a full PS fluid exchange. This will get the gunk out of your rack.

MSDS won't tell you anything about viscosity or molecular sizes and all spec sheets just show ranges vs temperature.

The only major problem with mixing may be some rare incompatable chemistry between additives in differenr brands.
