I was on my way to NYC last night when I stopped at a rest stop on I-90. I had been traveling about 80-90 mph until now, car was running very smoothly. I went to put gas in the car when I notice white smoke coming from under the hood. I pop the hood and see some fluid dripping onto the exhaust manifold (right where the exhaust manifold goes into the catalytic convertor).

I look under the car and there is a huge puddle of a red oil. I had the car towed to a Nissan dealer but ended up giving the keys to a Toyota dealer (long story). I will be calling the service department on Monday morning to have them look at the car.

Some history of the car:1995 Q45T. Dealer maintained for all services. currently has 73000 miles on it. Had a transmission flush where they hooked it up to the pump and ran it for like an hour about 6 months ago.

My guess is that it's maybe a hose that blew? I'm hoping that it isn't anything serious. I didn't try driving it or even starting it fearing that it may damage the transmission but prior to me stopping, the car was running perfectly....downshifting when I wanted it to and seamless shifts. Any guesses as to what it could be? I just want to be informed when I talk to the techs on monday.

By the way, I'm going to put my Q up for sale. My wife wants a smaller more economical car. I don't like driving automatic so I don't want to keep it. I'll post details and pics once I get the car fixed.

are you sure it is the transmission, and not the steering system losing fluid due to faulty hose?check levels of both-you may be surprised.

Did you check the transmisson fluid level?

Where did you see the fluid dripping at? Was it on the driver's side?

It could have been a leak in the HICAS system. It uses Dexron fluid.

All the transmission lines are below the engine except where it goes into the heat exchanger in the radiator.

A power steering leak is very likely. Start the car, turn the wheel all the way to one side and hold it there to see if it spills any fluid.

1995 Q45t didn't have HICAS, so it isn't that. Wonder if transmission is over filled?

There is a blowoff valve on the passenger side of the transmission, and I *suppose* it could blow off there, but not real sure..

WHere was it dripping, pass or drivers side?

It was leaking more towards the passenger side. It was dripping right onto the pipe that goes into the catalytic convertor so I guess it was leaking right above that. I don't have access to the car right now but I think I'm going to get it towed to my mechanic in Malden. The Toyota and Nissan dealers are giving me the runaround with the "We may be able to get to it by next week".Thanks for all the input...you guys rule.

If it was on the passenger side, then I am leaning towards what maxnix said about the transmission being overfilled.

I appreciate all the input. The dealer just called and told me that it was the Tranmission front pump seal and the transmission pan gasket. Estimated cost: $750.

What's your asking price? Tell us more about the history of the car. Accidents? Any major work done? # ownership?

Transmission front pump seal? The pump is internal, so I'm not sure about that one... I'm sure someone else will weigh in though. Pan gasket is simple.

The invoice says "Replaced front Trans seal and trans pan gasket." Also, they noticed that the left rear freeze plug was bad so they replaced that too. Total damage was $915. $65 in parts and 850 in labor....ouch.

Price is yet to be determined but the car is a 1995 Q45 Touring package. Dark Green. I posted the service history a while back... http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....31389

Some minor fender benders, the car was keyed badly once so the car has been repainted at the dealer once. All service performed by Infiniti dealer (except this most recent one). 73K miles on the odometer.

I installed HID's (pics can be seen in the members ride section). Also am going to throw in a set of Pirelli snow tires which were used for one winter so far. I'm looking to get around 7000 for the car but like I said, price is yet to be finalized.
