Last night I followed the FSM procedure for fluid change (2004 M45). Drained pan, refilled with same measured volume, then replaced by disconnecting the return line and pumping out a quart at a time and then adding a quart. Two things:
- Draining from the pan yielded 5 qts. That seems like a lot; what are other people getting? I'll check the level this afternoon, but I think it's overfull. I've searched and can't seem to find anyone saying how much came from the pan.
- The FSM, at least to me, appears to indicate that the driver side of the cooler is the return line. However, disconnecting this hose ended up in me being covered in ATF from the hard line side. Which line is supposed to be which? Did someone swap the lines on this car in the past?
