Alrigh, I'm about to change my trannie fluid, I went to NAPA and the gentleman behind the counter handed me Gear Oil SAE 80W-85W-90

now I've been reading up around here and apparently GL-5 is bad, but GL-4 is good. On the back of the bottle it reads API SERVICESGL-5, GL-4, GL-3

Is this the stuff I should use? and if so its just 2.5 liters correct?~Nick

return it!

same crap from autozone/ coastal branded gear oil had same API SERVICES...

@ least royal purple is in stock in pepboys these days... go w/ GL4 ONLY for the trans!

advance auto parts can special order redline fluid to get to their store w/out incurring any shipping fees...

My local autozone and napa told me that there is no such thing as synthetic GL-4, and both try to push gl3/4/5 on me. Don't go for it. Either get penzoil synchromesh or redline mt90. Hard to come by, but you will be very happy with the results.

GL-5 IS NOT BAD it has higher oxidation resistance, sheer resistance and higher film strength standards.

But it has more sulfates in it which damage nissan's brass synchronizers

The best stuff period is Amsoil MTF, but 2nd is the actuall GM Synchromesh "Friction Modified". The penzoil Synchromesh is equal to regular Synchromesh. It is not the FM one!!! Royal Purple sucks in the winter and breaks down to fast. And Nissan MTF just plain blows....

Best stuff I've run (and still running) is motul's motylgear.

Best ATF, plain jane Castrol ATF changed once a year.
