Transmission fluid change

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi, once again my wife's 08 EX35 is due for a transmission fluid change. The dealer quoted me almost $200 for the service. I called Nissan service they want $160 for standard transmission and $230 for transmission with CVT. So, my questions are the following; dose it worth $200 to do the service at the dealer and what is CVT? Thanks.

Is this for a drain and fill or a flush? Nissan recommends a drain and fill. I seem to recall that Nissan published warnings to dealers that they won't honor warranty claims for transmission problems that could be caused by flushes. If you are capable of changing your own oil you can generally handle a drain and flush. Some times you need some long an skinny funnels depending on where the fill hole is.

CVT - continuously variable transmission

The EX doesn't have one. The newer Maxima's do.

Thanks for the feed back. I will check further on the drain & fill; if this is the case I think I can do the work myself. It has been a while since I do any transmission fluid changes. The old days you have to replace the transmission filter along with the fluid; dose this apply for the EX? Than there is a warranty concerns; if I do the work myself will it void my coverage?

Looking at some discussions on the G35 forums it appears there isn't a filter to replace or a requirement to drop the pan and clean a screen. I would use Nissan's transmission juice just to eliminate any questions if you ever had a transmission issue.

BTW, above I said you may be able could handle a "drain and flush", I meant a "drain and fill" :-)
