I was thinking about changing my transmission fluid. I bought the car at 117000 and it's at about 134000. I haven't changed my transmission fluid once. My friend told me the only time you need to change the transmission fluid is when you change your clutch? Is this right or should I be seriously thinking about changing my transmission fluid?

I change it every year regardless of mileage. Around every 30K miles though should be normal.

Best to change it more frequently than when the clutch goes(unless you are burning up clutches frequently) The magnet at the bottom of the trans is only so effective and can only catch so much. In addition, trans oil, like any other oil, eventually begins to break down.

It's only like a 45 minute to 1 hour job. I've done mine twice in 2 months (breaking in new engine), and I'm going to do it again when my Redline oil gets here.

Better safe than sorry.
