Hey there, I know this is probably the most newbie question i've ever asked regarding cars in my life, but how do I change the transmission fluid in my 92 240SX 5 Speed. I have never changed transmission fluid, and I dont know how to change it or where to buy it, if someone could write up a "how-to" and post it, that would be ideal. Thank you.

1) Buy new fluid & rubber gloves*2) Put on gloves3) Unscrew "fill hole" plug [it's a pretty big screw, look under the drivers side of the transmission up towards the top]4) Place drain pan under drain hole5) Unscrew "drain hole" plug, on the very bottom of the transmission, use a 1/2 rachet [no socket obviously]6) Let fluid drain7) <still draining>8) <almost done>9) Put drain hole plug back in10) Use one of those nifty bottle pumps that will screw onto the gear oil bottle.. prepare for arm tiredation, as this will last 10x longer than your typical p0rn session on the internet, without the satisfying end11) Put filler hole plug back in12) Dispose of old fluid properly13) Remove gloves, if equipped -- see how clean your hands are?!

* Note about rubber gloves:I felt like a wuss when I wore these for the first time.. but damn it's so much easier, no grease or crap on my hands at all, gear oil is some really nasty crap, it's really bad for your skin, cancer = no good!

Service manual says you'll need 80w-90/ GL-4 gear oil, 2.4 liters/ 5.1 pints of it

the way that i filled it was taking off the shift boot and removing the shifter and filling it in the hole, and leaving the side filler open as a notification for you to stop.

that side fill plug is a biznatch to get off! so i just drain it and then fill the 2.4 quarts

i think the search should blink faster. and the "make it bigger" idea is a good one too. hehe

This was on a different thread about about gear oil. Anyone with a manual should definately want to check it out.
