I just found out that I don't have the right size socket to get the transmission fill plug off on my sr transmission. I have a 13/16 socket that seems like it would work, but it is too long to fit in there with a socket wrench. I'm thinking I should just fill the transmission through the shifter, but I'm not sure if it is the same procedure due to the fact that I have a b&m shifter. My question is what size is that filler plug. Thanks in advance.

I think it was a 17 or 19mm wrench. But you can fill from up on top like you mentioned although you'd have no idea if you filled too much or too little without taking the side fill plug off.

Thanks guys for the input. I'm just going to buy me a good socket tool set. Running back and fourth to the auto parts store for just one socket or wrench is getting kind of ridiculous.

I used to fill the transmission through the shifter, but then I got the B&M shifter so I no longer do that. The B&M is great, but probably the only downside that I see is that you have to unbolt 6 bolts inorder to remove it. Now I have to use my oil pump and put the oil in through the fill bolt
