Howdy folks!

I'm going to be getting the transmission of my 2001 QX4 rebuilt in the next month or two, and it's occurred to me that the transmission being pulled presents a unique opportunity for shenanigans. Two things come to mind:

1. Have them install a shift kit - really, there is no better time to do that.
2. Get the transfer case inspected and its fluids changed. I've replaced the differential fluids recently but skipped the transfer case once I saw where it was located (more than I cared to bite off at the time).

I'm wondering if anyone has any groovy ideas of other things that can or should be done then. Notably, performance enhancements and preventative maintenance. The place I'm going to also specializes in transfer cases, axles, and seemingly anything gear-related.

Also, are there shift kits available for the QX4? I'm assuming so, but have no idea what to look for. Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for them? About how much do they run and is it worth it?

Thanks in advance!

This is the only shift kit I know of. Also have the shop flush the cooler lines, install an auxiliary cooler in-line with the stock cooler (B&M 70264 is rated for 24k GVW and will fit fine - see pics of my setup, and install an in-line filter. That's just about the best you can do for our transmissions.

Thanks for the link to the shift kit, and good call on the flushing!

I think I'll skip the extra cooler for now only because I want to do it myself

Sure thing, an additional cooler and in-line filter is an easy and fun DIY and I'd highly suggest it over having a shop do it, if you're inclined of course.

Wish i had thought to throw a shift kit in my Qx4, its transmission is just being re-installed after being rebuilt.
