Ok so I decided to take my car out for a spin and when rolling out on 1st gear there is a significant amount of vibration(I mean the whole car and shift knob), going into 2nd the noise and vibration come back only at low revs but this mostly happens when you are kinda letting the car almost to stall. I went on the road and then I heard a squeaking/grinding noise right below the shift know. The noise and vibration go away when I downshift or when I'm at high RPMs. The car shifts very smothly and gears change w/o any problems, the only problem is that noise and the vibration I'm getting.

I was thinking about being the drive-shaft installed incorrectly, but I didn't take it apart yet to find out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's a 1989 240sx with B-Top SR20DET. I have replaced the master and slave clutch cylinder in the past because the car wouldn't shift, but that's all good now.

Yes it is stock drive shaft that was with the KA transmission and engine. But when I had the KA in it this wasn't happening.

Are you engine and transmission mounts in good condition?

My engine and transmission mounts are Nismo and are brand new. Anyone think it could be a bearing or something with the drive shaft? It doesn't vibrate when I'm fully stoped and neutral or in gear. It only does it when taking off and the sound start and vibration, but if I push the car hard the noise goes away and it stops vibrating untill I let go of the accelerator.

thanks

Do your rpms flucuate or seem like its the engine causing the vibrations? What kind of condition is your carrier bearing in.

Nah, The RPMs don't fluctuate, it's pretty stable, I don't know what condition the carrier bearing is, but the car has about 165k miles on it and it has provably never been replaced. I didn't have this problem when the KA was in it. It started happening after I put in the SR20. Maybe I installed the drive shaft incorrectly or a part backwards or even missed a part? We can't really tell until I take it apart right?

My guess is install error or a bearing, but I don't know for certain.

I hope it is an install error or a bearing on the shaft, I don't want to mess with the transmission or have to replace it

I'm planing on taking my Driveshaft out this Saturday as the weather will be good for that. Anyone has any Idea of what I should be looking for that might be causing this problem??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm willing to bet you forgot to install the bracket that holds up your carrier bearing to the chassis.

Ok gear heads. I did a few things to my car today and took pictures of the drive shaft. I think one or more of the bolts where the shaft meets the transmission is hitting the transmission housing or something. Here they are are:Never mind the ugliness, but the bearing and support are there. It looks kinda bent but that might be because the car is lifted. Here is another shoot. I know what you thinking about.I think this is my problem. One Bolt is missing and the other one looks backwards and it;s hitting the transmission housing??This is my car awaiting to be fixed. So guys please let me know if you see anything wrong in those pictures I posted. I'm thinking of just replacing the whole drive shaft, but If the problem is the bolt hitting the transmission housing the I'll just fix it and replace the center bearing.Took out my water pump, new one on it's way, the inlet and outlet water ports, I will be cleaning these and painting them red with epoxy.Took out the AC compressor, I don't need that, I come from where heat is the daily meal, that should be 20-30lbs out. And the a**

So I know what my problem is. I didn't take out the dust cover from the transmission before I installed the drive shaft. My question now is does anyone know how long the bolts are for the shaft and and what diameter they are? I think they are 14mm but I don't know how long they are.
