Looking for some info on a clicking noise happening when shifting from P to R then also while shifting through gears. It seems to happen more when its cold. I noticed for about a week just from P to R but now I hear it while in D too. Any help is more than appreciated thanks

2 things; it can be the brake pads shifting in the brackets, which can be resolved or lessened by removing the pads and lubricating the hardware kit. 2nd and more common issue (there's a service bulletin) is its the rear axle splines making noise where they go through the rear wheel bearings. Simple fix is to loosen the axle nuts, anti-seize the axle splines, and reinstall. I can get you the bulletin number when I get to work.

I'm having the same noise but sounds like its coming from the rear axle. So would that be the rear axle splines as stated? Getting my mechanic to take a look see but i don't think they will find anything. But if there is a bulletin up about it I will want to take it to Infiniti and get it fixed.

Its ITB08-018b It states to use Molylote M77 grease which is some mega space age stuff found on Mars or something. I use anti seize in the area shown in the picture, and I also do the splines themselves.

I had this exact same problem and the solution was what BlackCat posted. The click was very loud when I put the car in R or D and I had Firestone fix it. But now it seems like it's coming back I can hear a very faint click. Did you ever have a noise after you did this BlackCat?

Thanks for all the posts. I took it to the dealer today and they say they need to pack the rear axle bearings. Cost- $200. Is there a service recall on this to where it's covered?

No M35/45 has packable or serviceable rear (or front) wheel bearings. So I don't know what they're doing.

I've done a million of them and never had one come back. In my opinion, the noise is from the splines themselves, which is why I lubricate them in addition to what the bulletin states.

Awesome thanks! This will be helpful if I ever hear the noise again.

This is something I have been needing to do for a couple months now but have not had the time. My lifts at the shop are always packed and I don't feel like doing it at home on my back. I did the front lower control arms and springs that way. I also need to do my front upper control arms but I want to save for the ones with the camber adjustments in them.

I had this years ago and noticed the clicking when taking off from a stop, dealer took care of splines no charge and clicking went away

How did you get the dealership to take care of it? Were you under warranty?
