So about 2 weeks ago driving home whenever I stopped at a light I noticed a grinding sound at idle. I immediately pulled over and turned off the car for 5 min. Started it back up and no sound in park put it in reverse and the sound comes back neutral no sound drive there is one. I decide to drive home as i know my car has a full warranty for 2000 miles. I notice the sound only happens when i am at a complete stop in reverse or drive. Next day i get a tow truck to bring it to my local infiniti. I hear back from them in a day saying they took off the transmission and found a metal piece as well as very "slushy transmission fluid". Keep reading and have a sigh of relief as they tell me it will be completely covered under warranty. They have to ship the a refurbished transmission from somewhere in the mid east and it takes 2 weeks to get there. All i can say is i'm glad it happened at 58,000 miles and not 60,001. Have no idea what caused this i was planning to do a transmission flush at 60,000 and on the day it happened it was very hot and i hadn't been driving aggressively. Just letting you guys know i think i'm the only one who has experienced this.

Yeah I think you are the first, that I've seen (and I've been here a while) to totally have a transmission grenade on themselves. Nissan's are usually pretty good with the motors and transmissions.

Gotta love warranty though. I had my Elite warranty until 84kmi and it was great. I'm at 104kmi now and so far so good but if something should break, it'll megasuck.

It would suck, the CVT in my 2011 quest just gave out @120k mi. $4500 out of pocket!
Scarred me enough that I made an appointment for fluid exchange for the M in a day.

My dad's CVT failed at 4kmi on a brand new 2014 Pathfinder. I hate CVT's.

I hope this isn't going to be a common issue for our 7AT. I'm glad you got this taken care of before you warranty expired.

Transmissions and failures are a very unique situation with a lot of bad info.

The tranmsission should of lasted longer than 58K without maintenance. However as a mechanic and previous service advisor, I'd say the vast vast majority of people never service a transmission. People then cry and freak out when it fails at 150K. Then there is the rumors about fluid changing causing transmission failure. While I agree to leave it alone if it has very high mileage. But, a lot of people are prompted to do a fluid change because the transmission is acting up. Usually the transmission is already on it's way out. People change the fluid, the transmission goes out, (was going out anyways) and then people blame the fluid change. No, you had a failing transmission due to lack of maintenance and it was already damaged and worn. Sometimes it's worth the gamble. I had a Honda Accord with 200K+ miles. It would slip and stick in gear. I took it in and the shop refused to do a fluid change. At that point I figured I didn't have anything to loose. I did a fluid change and added a transmission additive and drove the car for antoher few years before I sold it.

I thought the drivetrain warranty was good until 70k miles.

Most warranties are 3/36 , 5/60, and 10/100. I don't know of any manufacturer that has a warranty ending at 70K.

They vary.
In 2011 the basic warranty was 4yrs/60k miles, while the powertrain was 6yrs/70k miles for the M.
Infiniti seems to have kept the same until the current model year Q70.

The Infiniti warranty is generous compared to the Nissan nameplate.
