I don't know prices for your area, but prudence dictates to find out what took place. Wouldn't it be better to take some of that $1400 and diagnose the problem, might be a solenoid and oil, filter change.

I agree about checking things out first. I had a 95 pathfinder before and hit a bump then no power...turns out the torque converter went bad. Easy fix!

This is an automatic, right? First check the fluid level per the owner's manual.

After that make sure it isn't something else (locked brake?) Broken ring and pinion? ???

Ok i check fluids and for leaks nothing wrong there. Symptoms i have right now is in Park and Neutral the transmission makes a grinding noise but in R D D2 D1 its quiet. Moves forward but barley almost like when your driving in D1 when you reverse it moves then gets stuck and jumps then moves again. From what i can tell all my gears work just not moving normally. I visually inspected the under the car and i see nothing wrong with shafts and brakes. My truck dont even got rust on the underside ( factory undercoating). The rear wheels do jump kinda wierd though. Im taking it to Lee Myles transmission shop tomorrow for a free diagnostic test hopefully it is something simple. I felt like total garbage today i had no ride and public transportation sucks. gotta get to my campus at 6:30am and i live 1:30 plus on the bus....

Not busting balls, but every repair that costs that much should always include pulmonary in the description.

Did you notice anything odd, i.e. vibrations, noises, prior to the blowout?

Well funny timing, mine is shot now too.

It had been feeling off for the past couple of days so I took it in to Mister Transmission.
They dropped the pan and found brass....

I am going to get it rebuilt, as apparently there aren't any low mileage ones around (They said they could only get one with 160 k).

My new floor mats came in the mail today though, so today isn't really that bad.
