Please Help!!!I have a '03 I35 bought it in April '07 wit 30k miles as of Nov '07 i have 56k on it. I keep it maintained by Infiniti where I bought it from & lately my transmission has been doin some crazy things. After driving for and hour or more the trans takes longer 2 shift from 1st-2nd & 2nd-3rd. It seems as tho it is slipping into gear & I don't kno wat 2 do. When the car hasnt been driven long it shifts fine it only happens after a long time of driving. When I take it to Infiniti it never does it b/c the drive isn't long & they say there is nothing they can do b/c it doesn't do it when they have it. The trans has been serviced about 20k miles ago and the fluid is still red and doesn't smell like nothing is burning. Does any1 have any suggestions on wat I should do? I'm thinkin about trading when my extended warranty is up @ 90k miles. This is really upsetting me b/c this is my 5th nissan product & those were super reliable and our family now consist of a '03 Max '06 Titan and the '03 I35....please help!!!!!!

Could you explain the situation again. You said it only has this problem after a long drive, but doesn't after driving long.

That doesn't make any sense.

basically I have 2 drive the car 4 a while b4 the situation would occur. It's like once the trans fluid is warmed up thats when it would start slipping...

I got my service advisor to ride with me and the trans started acted up...so they decided toreplace the trans under warranty...so I'm happy. This whole process is goin pretty smooth. It just took Infiniti 3 weeks to get the trans in but they called 2day and said the trans is here they gave me a loaner & they said they will call when it's done. Hopefully this trans will not give me any problems & I will have 300k miles of fun reliable driving in my 4-Door Diamond Graphite baby...thanks 4 the help & advice.

Aren't we a bit zealous?

350,000 miles? It's possible. I'd say 250,000 is likely. 300,000 is doable, but 350,000 is pushing it.

However, I was at the local dealership a week or two ago and they mentioned a J30 that comes in for regular servicing with 480,000 on it with original engine and transmission.

Talk about tough cars.

naw i'm sure my car will make it....i keep it maintained by Infiniti/Nissan so it's very well taken care of and i do alot of highway driving, 26k miles in 8 months, so i'm pretty confident that i'll have alot of miles on here b4 i get rid of it. And I also have seen many Nissan/Infiniti vehicles with over 300k still running perfectly just requiring regular maintance from working @ a Nissan dealer for 3 years. There's a Nissan Dealer in Northern Virginia that had a Maxima with 500k miles, original engine & trans, body/interior/paint was in decent condition in the showroom, that was traded on a newer Maxima so i'm hoping I will have a story 2 tell when I get in the higher miles.

While the old transmission is out they need to check the electrical connectors to it. Maybe thats really why itwouldnt shift right and its just cheaper to replacethe transmission. I guess new electronic wire harnessescome with the transmission?

I agree that they CAN last forever, but I disagree with the Nissan/Infiniti servicing.

When they had my car in for the timing chain cover leak, it took them 3 tries to figure out where it was leaking from.

They charged us $2,700 for the job and instead of dropping the whole engine replacing ALL of the seals and putting it back together. They dropped the engine part way (leaving scar marks) and only replaced the one seal allowing for all of the others to blow one by one.

Also, being charged $750 to replace rear struts is ridiculous. The struts cost $150. It takes about an hour to replace them and another 30 mins to do an alignment. So where does the other $450 go?

I got my car back from Infiniti...they said my trans was slipping b/c the 2nd gear of my autobox was falling apart and there was metal contamination in the trans fluid so they replaced my trans with a reman trans....then they called me & said they were having problems with the reman trans shifting out of park so they then had to replace the trans pan & valve body, and align the shift lever...i picked it up and it seems to be running fine....only time will tell. If i have problems with this trans imma get a FX or the 09 Murano
