Well yesterday I toke my car to my mechanic and after about 2 hours of diagnosting the car he came to the conclusion that it is my transitor unit that is causing my car to miss fire.....its only running on about 3 cylinders..........I was Wondering if the transitor unit can make that happen??????????????And why is it so expensive for a transitor unit??

Thank you for all your help

What part is he calling a transitor unit? Does he mean transiStor unit? If he does, what part is the transistor unit?

Is he talking about a coil pack?

I have no idea what part you are talking about. Get him to show you the part. A picture would be great.

I guess I don't even know where that goes. Did he show you where on the car it is?

It's $340 from the dealer with NICO discount.

Try a used one off another car first.

for my background in electronics this does not sound reasonable.

transistors will most likely cease completely than work half-and-half

you need to find an oscilo-scope and check the input and output signals and see what is happening on both sides, or as others have said find a one from another car and check first before investing that money into such an expansive part.

ok so if you have changed the ignitor chip and it didnt do much.... perform a power balance test (it is easy, you can do it yourself without help), get the engine to warm up a little.... take one plug off at a time (blue arrows in the attached pic), each plug when removed, should drop the rpm slightly and cause the engine to shake, if you have a gas/spark problem, one of your plugs will not change the way the engine runs, that will narrow down your search.... do that and then update of what you get

if you have a dremel and a vacuum, you could do the replacement yourself (one injector at a time)
