O.K, I've been scratching my head over this since Sunday. I drained my transfer case Saturday, got close to 3 quarts out, and got less than 2 quarts to go back in. Has anyone else experienced this? It should take 3 1/8 quarts I know. Also, has anyone pulled the transfer case filter? Town said it cost like $115 so I'm thinking it's a mesh strainer that can be cleaned and inspected rather than replaced. Any ideas? Thanks.

If you'd like, you can remove the transfer case filter and see what it is. To reinstall it, you'll need a couple new O-rings:

[15226X] SEAL-O RING
[15226XA] SEAL-O RING

Provide your VIN and I can provide exact part numbers.

Well, no matter what I've tried it will only take two quarts. I pulled the transfer case filter and cleaned it with brake cleaner and compressed air. It does appear to be a screen rather than paper element; at least no paper pleats showed. Takes two O-rings on the filter itself and a third on the pipe that runs into it from the transfer case. They were in good shape so I re-used them.
