Hi my transfer case is fine to switch on the fly from 2WD to 4WD-HI but its slow to switch back in to 2WD mode ( what i mean by "slow" it doesn't switch immediately ) . what i want know if changing the oil will in the transfer case will help.

also which oil should i use? ( its a 5 speed Manual Transmission )

Does the transfer case share oil with the transmission or its got its own oil?

another thing is is the 5 speed Manual and 4 speed Automatic use the same Transfer case or no?

Dont know about the fluid, sorry. I used ATF in mine but you shouldnt since you have a stick It is seperate from the transmission but the only thing between the 2 is a seal. Thats why I use ATF so if the seal leaks there is no contamination.

Isn't it gear oil that is specified? The shock and wear might be higher with ATF, but I am not sure cause I have a 2002.

Seems like on this part, synthetic is a effective and safe bet.

mine has always seemed to do the same thing, but it seems normal. as in if you are parked and go from 4h to 2h, it will never disengage but as soon as you roll 20-30 feet, the light goes off. it has done this every time i have shifted it, immediately goes into 4h but takes a few feet with the gears spinning to come out of it. i dont hear or feel anything abnormal whenever i do this.

that is exactly what mine is doing sometimes the light goes off right away and sometimes u need to roll a few feet and it goes off.

So you say this is normal?

Oh I read this again-It is made that way. You have to unload the drivetrain, and the light will go off and it will go to 2H.

So you let off the gas for a second right after moving the lever...boom your out!

It is the loading that keeps it in. Totally normal.

is there a seperate oil filter for the transfer case? (just below right of the transfer motor). If so, does it need to be changed? there is no info in the service schedule about that...
