thats because when i name the images, i purposly name them the way people would google search for them

its a little trick i learned for SEO(search engine optimization) while i learned to to make websites. i not only use that method for the page titles, but for images too. i will purposely name the image "rogue_differential_fluid_change.jpg"

The price for Regular 80W-90 2 Lt. gear oil (Nissan OEM) is $16 + tax (%13), and the price for Synthetic 80W-90 2 Lt. gear oil is $33 + tax. I will definitely get the synthetic one (transfer case needs 0.36 Lt and differential needs 0.55 Lt, so 2 Lt. will be more than enough).The service cost to change these two fluids is $225 + tax! (your jaw is on the floor again, right ImStricken? $225 for this service...as if they are replacing the differential!

).They also said these fluids need to be changed if the mileage is high and if the car is towing to much.

I will never give 225 bucks to change those two fluids.
well you dont have to use nissan only fluid, like in the CVT. you can use mobile, or any other brand. since we dont have copper parts inside we can use any GL4/GL5 gear lube. (only GL4 is safe for copper parts) but if you want to be safe you can use nissan branded items too. i feel its a tad over priced.
The rear differential oil replacement looks really easy

. All I need to find is a 10 mm allen socket, a new crush washer and a pump to pump 0.55 Lt oil. However the transfer case looks really complicated and ImStricken warned people like me about not doing this service

.
you can find a 10mm hex allex socket in any auto parts store. they usually sell them single, and its about $5-$10 for the socket. the pump is also often sold in those same auto parts stores. just make sure it fits your style of bottle. there are 2 styles of bottles.
My question is, ImStricken says it is good to change these fluids every 48.000 km. My Rogue has 21.000 km on it and it is 18 months old. I assume after 18 - 20 months my Rogue will be 48.000 ish kms. At that point I will change the rear differential oil, but can I stretch the transfer case oil, because I think I will ask service to change it for me. Do you think Nissan service is right? I am not towing and the mileage is low...for the first time Nissan service said it is not necessary to spend money and change a fluid.

this fluid ideally should be changed every 30,000miles. does it with most people? no. in our rogues the transmission is constantly feeding power to the transfer-case, and the transfer-case is constantly spinning the propeller shaft. so every second that the car is moving, the transfer case is spinning and breaking down the oil. - now the differential is slightly different. its not always being "used". only for the first 0mph--6mph is the rear differential actually engaged and transferring energy (and at times when the car thinks its slipping or taking a corner hard). the rest of the time the rear differential in our car is just 'free-spinning'(kinda along for the ride while the front wheels are doing 100% of the work.). its equally important, but at the same time - the fluid is getting less heat, compression, etc. i simply would change them at the same time or within the same month to avoid confusion later.
you can honestly stretch both to about 50,000miles with little to no damage. if your not towing, if your not street racing, if you dont have 4/5 people in the car EVERY day like a limo service - then your not working that fluid to its full potential. plus - canada is cooler than other area's. so the operating temps are lower, thus increasing the service life of the fluid.
regarding my opinion on the job: honestly, the rear differential is very-very simple. its easier than an oil change on the engine. now the transfercase is a differently story. its a hard area to get too, and you will need a BREAKER BAR to get into the tight spots in order to open the fill plug first, and then the drain plug. i would leave it to a mechanic with experience so you dont strip the bolts. (any other questions, please feel free to ask

)
