I own an Altima 1994 SE with an automatic trans., my project is to replace the original 2.4 engine with a SR20DET Turbo, however, I just found out the transmission that comes with engine is manual.

Has any one done a swap from auto to manual transmission, if so, will it be worth the work, and would it be pretty simple if I purchase all the parts from a wreck yard.

thanks

There are many people that have done the 5spd to manual swap. But, dont know about on an Altima. You would have to get the holes drilled in the firewall for your clutch master cylinder linkage and pedals, the halfshafts or whatever that go to the wheels, etc etc.

Do you know what you are doing and do you know what parts you will need? What parts come w/ your swap? etc etc. Just some stuff to think about.

The one who's selling me the engine + manual trans told me every thing is included for a complete swap.

(ECU,Turbo, distributor ........ plus a manual transmission)

There my problem the transmission, should I swap only the engine ? and keep my automatic transmission ?

I'm pretty good with mecanical things.

It depends on whether you want to be driving a turbocharged Alty w/ a automatic. Or if you would rather have a 5spd. I know on a 240 its not that much of a pain in the arse to change to a 5spd from an auto. Granted, we dont need a new ECU or anything like that either though. I dont see why you would either? But, it all comes down to whether you want to go through to trouble of swapping or not.

I just thought about this, that the bellhousing on your KA transmission won't bolt up to the SR. At least they dont match up w/ the 240.

I think the RWd trans. swap from automatic to manual may be easier than the swap with a FWD. "never done one" ?

I'm not sure why I need to replace the ECU but it comes with the swap !

My concern would be the engine mounts ????, do my original ones fit ?

this would be a good question to ask in the altima tech forums. look at the list on the left and scroll down to find it. The ECU needs to be changed to account for things like different fuel maps of the sr and a different transmission.

So the ECU would be necessary to be replace if I change the transmission.

Looks good "you 240"

Yes you can do a manual swap, and you are looking for alot of work in swapping the sr20. Swap your ka transmission to a 5 spd ka and turbo your ka. You obviuosly have no idea what you're getting yourself into.

lmao ^ Well yea if you are getting a different motor, that is why you need a new ecu. If you just swapped your KA to a 5spd, you wouldnt' need to change the ecu.

the sr20det swap is not a direct bolt-in in an altima. There is a guy doing it, Nick, on altimas.net. There is an entire thread about his progress in the turbo forum over there. Check it out.
