I am going to be swapping a VH45 into my truck and would like to know the gear ratio's in the stock 1992 Q trans. I had planned on keeping the stock 5 speed in my truck but I am contemplating using the stock Q a/t as it bolts up to my transfer case with ease.

I have heard the issues with the stock Q trans but any input on both or one is welcomed!

Yeah it's probably the same as the pathfinder and xterra. Sorry but I forgot to mention that this is for a 99 frontier 4x4 v6. I think the transmissions are same for all v6 trucks 87-04 but I may be wrong. Also I have the VG33.

The reason I think it's pretty strong is that it must be able to take abuse in 4h and 4L as well. The lower transfer case ratios must beat the hell out of the transmission and that's why I assume it will handle 300 hp in 2wd pretty good.

The reason I think it's weak is that when I do 1st gear burnouts (lord I apologize) ,with my wimpy 160hp v6, it tends to pop out of first gear. If I hold it in gear it melts the tires just fine. Go figure....

The only thing I could find on my stocker was for a 04 frontier but they should be the same. I'm just gonna put them here for reference.

M/T A/T

1 3.580 2.785

2 2.770 1.545

3 1.360 1.000

4 1.000 0.694

5 0.811 -

R 3.636 2.272

It looks like the ratios for the Q and fronty with the auto are almost identical. I'll start asking around the frontier community and see if anyone has the auto and 35's to see how they like the gearing.

Transmission are rated by TORQUE in foot pounds on the input shaft.

Is there any way to check the rating differences between the truck and Q transmissions?

Thanks for the help. I talked to another nissan expert and was told that the truck and z32 transmissions are very similar in build design with only the shifter being different. The truck doesn't have the linkage. Thanks again!
