Ok, before you all start. I tried searching here and google.

Are the transmissions in the 5.6 & 3.7 the same? The reason I ask. Had this conversation with my mechanic about beefing up or simply keeping my trans happy. Mentioned level 10 VB & he said unnecessary. Brought up a trans cooler. He said at my current power level. Again Unnecessary. If I went forced induction. Then he said a trans cooler would be sufficient.

So if the 5.6 trans is the same? Is anything extra done to it to be able to survive the TQ output?

According to the good ol' Infiniti E-Store, no they are not the same...as a matter of fact, the 3.7 transmission is more expensive, by as much as $2 - 3K.

They have the same gear ratios (1 - 7), but different final drive ratios.

And you would think the trans that is attached to the V8 would be more expensive as it's got more power to manage.

They are for all practical purposes the same. The V8 has a different valve body calibration and a different TCU flash. As far as I know the internal components are the same other than perhaps the torque converter.

I would consider both a trans cooler and an engine oil cooler in the southern climates. I am about to add both to my M56 as both get over 220°F in warmer weather with relative ease.

Install the secondary trans cooler in the return hose from the radiator cooler. Let the factory cooler pull as much heat out of the fluid as possible before allowing the auxiliary cooler to remove more. This is the setup my Express van had from the factory although I put a much larger cooler with a thermostatically controlled electric fan to compensate for towing my heavy travel trailer with a 2,600 rpm stall converter and alot more power than stock. In the same weather my Express will not top 200°F trans temp pulling a combined total of 12,500 lbs down the road.

Edit-It is also worth mentioning that a stock M56 would see even higher oil and trans temps than mine. Mine has had the Nismo thermostat in it since last summer and runs no hotter than 180°F coolant temp. Levels out about 168-170°F on the highway at cruising speeds. Stock it ran around 190-200°F.

Impressive DFW

The different torque converter makes sense for the V8.

My torque tables were changed for my trans with UPrev. Just trying to do preventative maintenance

Question on your torque table change. When I changed mine to more closely match the engine output it seems like mine became less responsive and tends to upshift even sooner. Did you experience this as well? I then changed my load scaler and table to hit 100% load sooner but it still seems reluctant to downshift at times. It has such a bad delay at times I usually just paddle down even in drive when I want a quick downshift. I discovered a while back you can paddle down without even being in manual mode.

Where can i get one of those thermostats and is it a had job to complete on your own? I am a mechanic as a side hustle outside of my day job (systems engineer) so I can do just about anything to a car.

Shifts firmer and quicker when pushing her. Upshift is about the same as before DD.
