I currently own an 08 350Z that has already been in the shop several times before the 5k mark. I have been experiencing a noise / rattle from the trans when the car is in neutral, when the clutch is engaged the noise goes away. I have complained several times to the local dealer and they can't find any thing wrong. Today I had it towed to the dealership because when i put it in gear the car just revs like it is stuck in neutral. If i put the car in gear and let off the clutch it doesn't stall out either and I know that the gear is engaged because the noise from the clutch is gone.

The noise/rattle when you are in neutral with the clutch out is NORMAL. The high rev issue is not.

Check out the "my350z.com" forum. It's one of the 100 most asked questions. I also checked with my service dept. and tried other new 08's. Although I think it's ridiculous for a new car to make those noises, it apparently is normal for our Z. Also, it is covered by our 5 year drivetrain warranty, just in case "it's not normal"

i have the same problem with my 07 Z..I took it into the NISSAN dealer and they kept the car for 2 days.I took it in because of the rattle in the transmission and also because my left tie-rod end boot was ripped(dont know it had ripped)...So they replaced the tie-rod end and they called NISSAN to see what the rattle is.They told me it was normal but also, you might want to ask if your vin falls within a certain vin range because some 07-08 Z's have a recall on the Slave Cylinder.....

My 03 Z I just bought makes this noise... I'm new to the 350Z scene, but I keep reading that this is normal. Sometimes my car makes the noise in low RPMs in 1st and 2nd, although I've been noticing that if I let the clutch out to the friction point and then start giving it gas it won't make the noise, it's more noticeable if I give it gas before it reaches the friction point. I've also been told by a guy that has tuned a few Nissan's that I should have the flywheel and clutch replaced. This guy seems like he knows his stuff, so I don't know who to believe. The noise hasn't effected the drivability yet, no grinding of gears or slipping.

Nissan had my car for almost two weeks to let me know that my clutch and flywheel had to be replaced along with the throw out bearing and slave cylinder. I have had the car back for three days now and the problem seems to be fixed ( the clutch no longer sticks to the floor or revs by itself ) , but I seem to have gained two new noises that sound almost like a gargle sound at low RPM's and the other is a clink thud clink shifting in and out of 3,4,5. I love my 350Z but might have to pick up something else.

Forgive me for butting in here, but I have a G-35 Coupe 6MT with all manner of clunking and rattling sound and it drives just fine. After a few episodes of flogging the car, it gets quite when I park the car. You will always here the rattling especially when the car cools down over night or for an extended period of time. So, ia m used to it and I einjoy it. I flog my car all the time and the car gets better as it gets flogged. I know it sounds crazy but that is my 2 cents worth of experience with these cars.

I encourage any of you 350Z owners (I'm one myself) to research the internet for blogs regarding transmission and clutch problems. 350Z owners are complaining of clutches going out anywhere from 1,500 miles to 22,000 miles - including people who have had 3 - 4 clutches in as many as 20k miles. There are soooo many postings out there - it makes me sick because I have 31k miles and my clutch is out - car in the shop. It started having problems around a year ago (prob 10k miles less) and Nissan told me there was nothing wrong with it and they couldn't fix a hydraulic clutch anyways.

After much fighting right now, I don't think I'm getting anywhere on the warranty issue with them and how ridiculous it is that so many people are complaining of the clutches going out from 1,500 to 22,000 miles. This is obviously a huge Nissan problem. Oh - and the dealer is saying my entire clutch system is out - flywheel, everything. Another reputable shop (one that I actually have used for 10 years and trust) says they couldn't possibly know there's a problem with my flywheel without taking the clutch system off. This will eventually come back to Nissan, but in the meantime - look at all of the postings on the internet about clutch and transmission problems in the 350Zs, and be very very wary of anything the Nissan dealer tells you.

the noise you are hearing is normal it is a vibration in the through out bearing and has been around since the z31 models thats why it goes away at the friction point and you only hear it in 1,2 because after that the exhaust noise covers it . try siting in neutral and and depressing the clutch the noise should go away every time at the friction point.
