need help, i tried to change my Input shaft bearing today, as we were seperating the bellhousing from the trans, we noticed that the gears are moving out of line, we got scared and decided to just leave the old bearing there, and put everything back together..we bleedd the clutch fluid, put the gear oil and secure everything, then start the car,..as i was releasing the clutch pedal, i noticed that the gear is actually engaged, i tried to change the gear back to neutral, but it wont move, ...now i think thats my problem, the gear is stocked!! any idea how can i fix this, do i need to take the trans out again? need help pls..urgent..

Take the shifter off the transmission and look down at the shift forks; one of them may be jammed in the wrong position.

Its a front wheel drive trans. the shifter method wont work in this case.

When you put the case halfs back together you probably got 2 of the rods stuck in gears. You are going to half to seperate the case again and besure to get all the rods in the right place and detents properly set. once you set the case halfs together you need to manually check the shifting of the gears before bolting it all together and make sure neutral IS neutral. You do this by spining the input shaft and making sure the carrier does not spin.

As I said in your reverse thread. seperate it and make sure the detent layout is correct.

no you just have to make sure all the parts are in right. I hope you didnt loose any of the bearing spacers or your in for a world of hurt.

i gave up.....i tried everything you told me, lined everything into place, checked the gears...worked the shifter, fine when the bellhousing is half upped, but as soon as i drop it in line, i cant move the shifter, its somehow stocked again, so i took it to the nearest transmission shop here, and have them do it...found out that its not the inputshaft bearing that is worn out, its the main bearing and the diff. bearing thats making the noise....so, now im taking this chance to replace all the bearings while its open....so, wish me luck...thank you for all the help.....but, any idea why my reverse gear somehow kinda stay engaged even after i switched it back to neutral!?
