trans fluid question asap

ok i just changed the fluid in my 89 240sx 5 speed and i was told to add 2.4 quarts into the shifter hole but i was wondering if i put enouf into it. on the third quart of oil i only used 8 ounces of the 32 ounces available. should i use more than that in the transmission? i test drove the car and it is kinda hard to get into second and third gear when shifting so i think that i need more. please tell me in ounces how much more to add to the transmission.
