Trans fluid check?? Where??

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Am I missing something here--

Can you check your Trans fluid without rasing the car on a rack?

Does this car not have a trans dip stick?

Yep - I thought that was odd too.

P.8-11 of the Owner's Manual says:When checking or replacement is required, we recommend an INFINITI dealer for servicing.

From that, I concluded that it's not even meant to be checked except by the dealer.

Cheers,David

That is so stupid. What if the dealer didn't add enough or forgot to add any fluid, what if the trans blows? It will be the owners fault, which sucks of you can't check the fluid.

The Transmission dipstick is WAAY in the back of the engine between the firewall and the engine itself right about in the middle of the engine. If you get a flashlight and look back there you will see it. It actually has a latch on the dipstick, so you have to kind of "squeeze" it before you pull it out, and put it back, but you can reach it. (Unless you have very short arms). If you still cant find it, let me know and I will take a photo.

As far as checking the fluid and being responsible for the Transmission blowing, the Transmission should never "Use" any fluid. The only way it would be down if it were leaking and then you would probably see it under the car. I think that is probably why they put the dipstick in such an out of the way place. So people would not go trying to add fluid or other "stuff" to the Transmission which is not necessary and could damage it. Its more there for troubleshooting(color and smell) , and for flush and refill during a Transmission service.Ron

So you are stating that the transmission does not burn any oil while in "Break In period".

I doubt that.

Transmissions do not BURN anything. There is no "combustion" to burn anything. Break in or otherwise. If you trans fluid is any lower than when it came from the factory, you have a leak.

If you "doubt" me, confirm with Mr. Steve. I am sure you will "trust" his word.

Rontek,

I never said that I doubted you at all. I doubt "that trans can not burn oil." I trust anyone who gives good advice that is proven no matter where it comes from.

I feel that you have something against me, by other post. No worries, I can handle my own.

I used to build cars, engine and trans. If you have a part that is bad like a purge valve, I have seen trans burn oil. It is at a very slow rate, but it will burn. We have ran 100's of test with trans that do not have any leaks. Many conclusions can be drawn from our test. No need to explain them here.

Whatever.

If you say so, Transmissions can burn oil !

I am sure somone that has built 100's of engines would know.
