gathering partts for my trans flush (2nd). called infin of sctsdl. for the inline trans filter, the one near the rad. was told that filter is never replaced unless front end collision. having trouble wrapping my head around the idea of a filter that never needs replaced. i have a magnifine inline which we be replaced and considering using the BG/ syn. fluid. should i add a bottle of lubegard red? 96 q has 112k miles on her and shifts ok. 2nd to 3rd shift is a little soft. should i spring for the $100+ inline filter or is the magnifine filter sufficient?

Usually it is replaced at 60K - 100K, unless it is a dealer performing the work.

6 oz. of lubeguard Red with M1 ATF. Don't know about others.

Probably any sufficiently fine filter that won't clog and starve the planetary gears (first) is fine.

What does the white paper towel test tell you now?

WAITING until the transmission shows signs of changes is obviously too late to fully heal !

Reminds me of when I went to a dealer and asked if the differential fluid replacement was part of the 30K procedure.

His answer was, "No we look at it, and if it's OK, leave it in."

My reply was, "Well, if it is not OK, isn't it a little late?"

Same with ATF flush. Tech was disappointed fluid looked so good. I was ecstatic.

magnefine makes great inline filters for the transmission, but I would go with the factory external filter replacement for ease of installation,as the factory filter is plummed for 1 input and 2 outputs{1 for each inlet to each cooler},a homemade splitter would need fabricated to adapt an aftermarket filter to the q setup, not to mention mounting.

thanx to all input. i am still left with a couple of Qs. where in the fsm does it show the filter? what would make the oe filter superior to the magnifine filter? to what micron does the oe filter screen to? the magnifine claims 3 micron (in think thats right). i have a magnifine filter inline now. is there apoint to having both filters? i am just looking to do the best thing with out overkill and wasting $.

My 2nd transmission is still functional with 200,000" miles and 12 years in 2 Q, however I was religious about frquent BG flushing, Quick cleaning. pan dropping, filter changing, and using symthetic for 80% of those 200,000 miles.

Simple oem external [oil filter type] seems to do a fine job.................still doesn't negate the need to change the ATF when it degrades from temperature and oxidation.
