Does any one know of a good transmission shop in the Dallas Fort Worth area? The Dealership is quoting me $3 to $5 to replace the transmission for a 94Q.

Thanks,

Stephen

You could buy a Transmission from a rebuilder (such as ATK)and have it installed.

I had my trans rebuilt by LevelTen and installed it myself. LevelTen is not cheap, but they are experts on the Q trans.

I have seen transmissions for the Q on ebay. There is a company, called Phoenix Transmissions, that advertises rebuilt transmissions for the Q.

Whatever route you choose, install a heavy duty transmission cooler, by-passing the factory cooler in the radiator.

How hard was it to install your self? Did you use a transmission jack or a standard floor jack? Do you have a write up or pic's you could hook me up with? Is the procedure in the Service Manual?

Thanks,

Stephen

Stephen,

The procedure to change the trans. is not that complicated. I did it in my garage using an air impact wrench, transmission jack (from Harbor Freight) and a really good breaker bar for the bellhousing bolts (some of them were so tight, that the air impact wrench could not budge them).

The factory service manual shows you everything. Two mechanically inclined people can knock it out in a weekend.

I am not saying that it is a piece of cake, but that it is do-able. If you had access to a lift, it would be much easier.

Hope this helps.

Remember to always change the rear main crank seal when the transmission is out as you sure don't want to pay to pull the transmission again for a $20 seal leak.

Thanks all, the transmission is there yet, but when it is I may rent a transmission jack (if I can find one) and do it according to the SM.
