i believe my throwout bearing started making clicking noises after about 4k after a brand new ACT clutch job (used the one ACT gave me). it would click during acceleration but when i push the clutch in, the sound goes away. today i was driving on the freeway, stop and go traffic and all of a sudden, i got alot of smoking coming from my shifter. i slowed down and pulled over to the side of the road, but then i slipped the car back into 1st gear to take off, it goes in but when i release the clutch to take off, NOTHING happens. its like revving in neutral. same thing goes for 2nd gear, 3rd gear, 5th gear and reverse. its like im revving in neutral when i try to take off in those gears. the only gear the car will move in is 4th gear take off. fluid was leaking from the transmission and engine where they meet.

did the throwout bearing freeze? or did the transmission just melt itself? i need to know ASAP b4 i go ahead and pull this sucker off.

It sounds like the front seal in the transmission blew. If that's the case, the clutch surface and flywheel probably have fluid all over them. That would explain the clutch slipping and smoke.

yes that could be problem, but what can cause the problem of the car only engaging in 4th gear, not 5th or reverse or any other gear...
