All five speeds work just fine. The car is in excellent condition but when I put it in reverse, it pops right back out when I begin to move. If I hold the stick while trying to reverse it makes this LOUD clank noise as if I just hit two steel pipes together. I love this car to death and I want to drive it everywhere I go but I can't because it's embarassing having to push my Z out of a parking stall. Someone PLEASE help. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

ouch thats a new one to me but I'm gonna guess it's a gear problem in the trans, you can either replace the gears or find another trans to swap in, the z31's are easy enough to find at scrap yards I'd just go searching fro another trans, and good looking car btw, need to touch up the grey up front though

That sounds like a lot of money. Money that I don't have that is. I actually called all the junk yards around here and they don't have any Nissans that old. This sucks.

Thanks for the reply though.

I've been searching the Forum for the past hour and a half to see if anyone else has the same problem I have. I didn't find anything. I guess I'm alone on this one. The car is fully stock with no turbo (in case anyone wanted to know). I haven't tryed changing the transmission fluid. I'll do that this weekend to see if it helps. Btw I can put it in gear with no problem. It's just that as soon as it starts rolling, it slams itself right back out. It's pretty loud when it does it too. Any advice anyone?

Thanks again.

I don't know anything about transmissions for me to do it myself and the mechanics are asking for over $700 just to take it off and put it back. That's not including the fixing part.

oh crap I just realized you're in HI, yeah everything has to be shipped in at a premium.....OUCH! you might be able to find someone willing to ship you one from the mainland but thts gonne be some expensive shipping

my only other solution would be to fin a 240sx manual trans, it's basically the same trans, you'd have to take the front case off yours to put on the front of the donor, I did something similar with an L6 trans which was a 4 speed, should be a lot cheaper than shipping

I learned a trick that works on some cars- if you put the car in first gear and go from first to reverse (with the clutch in obviously, not moving) it might help get it into gear. I had a chevy s10 blazer i got for free and to put it into reverse without it grinding iI always has to go from 1st to reverse.
