Hey, I need assistance in diagnoses of my issue to save $$ by not buying stuff I don't need. I have a 97 240sx manual. I put a new exedy clutch kit and fidanza flywheel in about 1 year ago. I drove it a lot since. About 5 months ago, my transmission started to whine (people thought I had a crappy turbo in there, I wish). It would whine louder and higher pitch at higher RPMs. It would whine in every gear except fourth. It didn't really whine in neutral. A couple weeks ago, I was on the freeway in 5th. I didn't hear any weird noises, pops, cracks or anything as I drove. I exited to an off ramp and threw it in neutral and coasted to the stop sign. When I wanted to go again, I pushed in the clutch and couldn't shift back into first. I can't shift into any gear while the engine is running and I'm not rolling. I can see the slave cylinder moving with my pedal, so hydrolics are okay. I moved the rubber boot aside and could even see the splines from the pressure plate move a bit with clutch pedal depression. If the engine is not running, I can shift into any gears and the clutch pedal pressure feels normal. If the engine is running, I can't put it into any gear (pressure plate doesn't seem to let go of clutch) and the pedal feels a little weird at full depression. I hope the transmission whine and clutch failure are both related to a cheapo Daiken brand throwout bearing and maybe that's all I need to buy. Will transmission need rebuild to fix the whine (maybe carrier shaft bearings)? Will I need a whole new clutch kit. Any experienced advice please and soon? Thanks. PS, I was able to get the car home by putting it in 1st with engine off, using the starter to get the car rolling and then rev matching through the gears all the way home. All gears still worked, just no clutch to assist in shifting.
