LONG POST BEWARE!!!

First Im gonna dude a little "background" before I start my story.

After I installed the CA into the car, (motor only), I installed the clutch and flywheel onto the motor. Then the car was taken to Prestige Auto to finish the swap. Transmission/Driveshaft &Exhaust as well as wiring and such. He installed the transmission and driveshaft/and installed my BM shifter.

I had Royal Purple Syncromax in the car(was still unopened) when I took the car away from him after he couldnt get it working after 4+months. I assumed he would have put gear oil in there while he was down there. ( 90 weight or the like) thats what it requires. The synchromax isnt designed for our trannies(it says for transmissions that require ATF/multi-viscosity motor oil/or straight grade motor oil) so he didnt put it in there.

END OF BACKGROUND STORY..Trouble is about to happen....

So Im takin the ole Ca for a nice drive yesterday, transmission feels nice and firm, no play, shifts smoothly, and quiet. I might have put 60 miles on it during this time. 5th gear starts to make a whine, when introduced to lower engine speeds. the other gears it makes no noise. HMM, I thought, thats wierd. I wonder if any oil leaked out. No leaks under the car. Looks fine. Ive heard people complain about the BM doing that sometimes, so i shrug it off. Park the car and it sits for maybe 2 hours.

Go to meet some friends last night and I might have had 140 miles by now. We drive around and park at a sandwich shop. When I pull out to leave, the transmission sounds like ****, it makes a "rattle" almost in all the gears or a strong "shudder" but it still shifts smoothly. So I have no choice but to drive it home. So it has about 180 miles on it as of last night.

Now Im wondering if there was ever any oil or fluid in it. If there isnt what are the chances of me checking now and if its empty, putting some in, and the transmission still staying alive? Or is it gonna be dead no matter what, and I have to install another transmission?Still shifts great btw...stays in gear/doesnt make any noise on the shift, only when accel is applied.

Opinions, help.....

Get under the car, and do the gearbox oil change tango..

If no oil comes out, your mechanic has been a bit negligent. This is why doing it yourself is the only sure was to not spend your life in court, suing every professional that fails you in some way.

New bearings at least will be required. It would be cheaper to find another box. But keep this one for spares, the selector forks are expensive, and they shouldn't be damaged from lack of oil.

doh!..is all I can say about the whole situation.

I put 2 1/2 quarts of oil in there and now everything is great. Datto I went 135mph last night with no transmission fluid! LOL. Anyways, after a minute or two warm up and a short drive from first through third gear, everything seems fine. I do not condone street racing in any way.

To Nogaroberry:I have an extra KA trans anyway, but thanks for the offer.

Wow if you drove the car that much at that speed, you most than likely did some damage inside. Most of the damage going to the bearings, synchros and gears. Transmissions are tough and usually last a long time. Hopefully it last enough time for you to change it or use the KA trans. Good luck with the situation dude!
