I have a 1990 hatchback, 5spd, with 190k kilometres on it... when I first got the car I noticed a slight whirring, almost a whine, when you put the car into gear and drive off.. as the RPM's increased, the whine got more high pitched.. it was barely audible.. but I also noticed it when the car was sitting in neutral with the clutch engaged.. as soon as you pushed in the clutch pedal, the noise would stop... so tonight I was accelerating in third, with the music blasting.. and I hear a loud whine coming from under the car... I turn down my metallica, and its the same noise as before, just much louder...
Basically, whenever I put the car into gear now while it is running, as soon as I engage the clutch and take off, a loud whine emits from under the car, right about where the transmission hangs.. and as before, as I accelerate, its becomes higher pitched and a bit louder... and its still very loud when sitting in neutral with the clutch engaged, and it always stops as soon as I disengage the clutch.. but the clutch isnt slipping, nor can I smell it burning... what the heck is wrong with my car?
Any suggestions please
