I've been having funny noises from my transmission for a while, and I got the car looked at today. The guy said its the throwout breaing in the transmission (i've got a manual) and he says its not worth replacing because it'll just start making that noise after a few weeks of repair (he's got a 240, also. how lucky is finding a mechanic that owns your model car?) Has anyone else had any problems with theirs and if you solved them, how?

Thanks,Nick.

I had my throwout bearing making noise on my original transmission and clutch, replaced the clutch, and magically the noise went away for a few days, then it came back. It doesn't seem to be doing anything to the input shaft, but it sure is annoying. The noise goes away when it warms up (takes all of 3 minutes) so I can live with it.

I think I have the same issue. A slight rattle that seems to come from under the passenger seat. I think my clutch is about gone, so that could explain it. However, mine never seems to go away. Sucks.

When I replaced my clutch I didn't replace the throwout bearing, but I cleaned it out and greased it. It made that noise for a while but it has since gone away.

i have a funny noise coming from the transmission and my mechanic told me that it was the throw out bearing. he also told me that the shaft that it rides on can get worn after time, i own a 90 240, and even a new throwout bearing can make noises riding on a bad shaft, and it will sound the same too. my car makes the noise when it is cold, and just like said above, it usually goes away after a couple minutes and a couple shifts, but it is winter here now, and during really cold days, it will continue to do it far a long time after it would normally go away. when the car is sitting running you can hear it shimmy and sound like it is vibrating, and when you press in the clutch a little, it goes away, but when shifting when it is cold, especially in reverse, it starts to squeal right when you almost have it let out all the way, or when you shift at higher rpms when it is cold. if this helps any then cool, or if any one has a suggestion for me, then good too. thanks
