I am using my G35 to tow an camping trailer. Been working well for two years now.

I want to buy and install a transmission temp gauge. Any one have any experience with this? What brand of gauge is best? Where is the best place to tap into the G? Pan, line etc?

The hottest place for ATF is the output of Torque Convertor, however most measure the ATF pan temperature. The nominal is 174 - 200F.

JC Whitney has decent gauges for ~~$50 + sensor cost

Although they're harder to install, the mechanical transmission temp gauges (like Auto Meter makes, for example) are more accurate. Most of the electrical ones have just a few temperature markings on the dial, and the needle only swings over a small angle from lowest to highest temp. By contrast, some of the mechanical gauges swing 270 degrees or so, with enough markings to read the temp down to a few degrees F.

Summittracing.com has a huge selection of guages, any oil temp gauge will work and most cost about $50. Mechanical gauges are regarded well but are much harder to install, I'd recommend a electrical gauge.

You'll have tap the transmission pan for the sensor. Whether or not the gauge reads the "correct" temp is not as important as you being able to compare temps at normal operating conditions compared to towing, high heat etc.
