im really disappointed with this thread, i was thinking something completely different.

to the op: just pull the transmission out, you will probably want to replace your clutch while its apart and check to see if the flywheel needs to get machined, then just bolt it back up and throw it all back in. it will be a lot easier to put the bellhousing bolts on without the firewall in the way. easier said than done, as usual, but its pretty straightforward.

pull them both and then put both back in. if you just pull the motor, it'll be hard to put the motor back in with the trans still bolted up

its hard, the firewall gets in your way and its a PITA to unbold the bell housing from the block.so like everyone said just pull both

Yeah i dont understand...Its going to be EASIER (much) to bolt the trans to the engine in your driveway than it will be in the cramped engine bay. So you attach the trans to the engine, then drop them in together.

i am in the process of replacing my ka at the moment i pulled both the motor and trans of course i ended up getting a complete set from a car that ran the guy was doing a sr swap, so i elected to just swap both. but imo i would just pull both rather than fighting with the limited space to unbolt and replace the motor, may be slightly faster to just do both also. while i have mine apart i am also cleaning everythhing up.

Seriously? Ok, ready? Here ya go:1) Get everything off of the transmission.2) Remove transmission crossmember.3) Unbolt engine from mounts.4) Pull both out together.5) Done.

Doesn't take much, and don't over exert yourself. Unless you want to s*** yourself, in that case go buy some Depends.
