anyone know what trasnmissions are compatable with the CA18DET?

Just trying to see if it's feasable (not necessarily cost effective) to put a sequential transmission onto a CA18DET. I've found that Holinger carries housings that bolt up to the VG30DETT and the RB series engines, just trying to see if either one would fit, or a custom housing would have to be manufactured.

holinger does indeed make sequential gearbox's

they are very expensive here in australia they are $17,000

but they are the choice of all the GT-R drag racershere and in japan

in fact the 'prime garage' 180sx in japan runs one behind there CA18dethttp://www.holinger.com.au/products.html

so whats the difference between them? I know Holinger makes one, so does Trust, G-Force, X-Trac, Getrag...any others? What are the advantages and disadvantages to each companies gearbox.

Also, do you HAVE to downshift through the gears to get to neutral, or could you perhaps hit a button that pushes in the clutch, then you can downshift to neitral, but the clutch is in? So you don't put too much stres on the clutch

Also, how do you start from a stop light if you were running one on the street? I expect that the tanny just dumps the clutch and it engages 100% right then and there. Or is there a way to feather the clutch on the street?

Sooo wait... does a sequential gearbox necessarily have an electrohydraulic clutch? I don't see a reason you couldn't run a sequential box with a manual clutch (as many drifters I imagine would prefer) That would also reduce the complexity of such a setup.

I was under the impression that sequential boxes were just dog shifted, which due to it's amazing durability allowed you just to pop into gears without a clutch. However, starting would still require a clutch.

Also... don't those things make some sort of grinding when you pop them through gears?
