Does anyone know someone who has put a six-speed manual in a Q before? Is it true that you can put a RB26DETT in a Q, and if so what year Q would fit? Does anyone know a good transmission to use to put in a 97'Q and what mods you would have to do? Thanks...

For $100 an hour for design work and $50 for shop/manufacturing time you can have your own custom built 6 speed auto or SMG transmission made for your Q. If I had $10k to blow on a transmission, this is the route I'd go... Just imagine having a one of a kind 6 speed SMG with paddle shifters on your steering wheel...

Can't wait to win the effin lotto...

What about the TCU.. I guess you could get a cusotm programmable tcu..

man a 6 speed slushbox would be unreal..

The xj8 i drove with the ZF 6 speed was awesome

same power as the q, but so much more responsive.

All these newer engines use drive by wire [no direct connection between throttle pedal and throttle plate]..........they must be swapped as a set [engine/transmission, ecu, tcu, all harnesses].......OBD2 and databus/multiplexing has put an end to mix and match swapping.........at least as far as AT is concerned.

The interface engineering would cost more than the components.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Is there a place anyone knows in the Atlanta, Mephis, and Nashville area that is trusted with an engine and transmission swap of mass size and quality. thanks again.

The engine would more than likely fit but you'd need to allocate some components and I'm not sure on how well they would fit in the Q.

- RB25 Cross Member- RB25DET Gearbox- RB26DETT Harness- RB26DETT Engine

You will more than likely have fitment issues with the stock twin turbo setup and have to either custom fabricate a downpipe to fit around the steering linkage or move to a single turbo setup.

Car was DIRT cheap, and didn't sell (I dont think)

Try some of the companies that 6 speed manuals for domestic cars. The 6 speed from the camaro/viper(T56) is available with at least 4 different positions for the shifter. The ZF 6 speed from the 1990 -96 vette is also pretty good, but more expensive. You will have to have a bellhousing adapter made. Look for companies that build custom hot rods. You might want to look at the thread I started on LS1 into a Q. If you are swapping engines anyway, the LS1 is readily available with stand alone engine management, and is smaller in all dimesions that the Q's V8, and the 6 speed is then a bolt in.
