hey guys need a little info i have a 90 twin turbo with an automatic :frown: BUT my wife has a 90 NA with a 5 speed. well long story short she wants my trans and i want hers but i know that my car has a tcu under the floor board beside the ecu and im pretty sure hers doesnt (cant check as the car is not at home). my question is would i have to swap the wiring harnesses out in both cars to make this work? also would i need a new ecu or would the one i have now work? thanks in advance

To make the Auto a 5 speed, no harness swap, but you WOULD have to if you want to make the 5 speed Auto.

Solution:
Give her your TT (she will be very happy)
Sell her NA and put towards a slightly faster Manual TT for you (you will be happy
Now you are both happy :D

auto-5spd: yes, you can retain auto ecu. Not the case for manual-auto swap.

Will the N/A transmission hold up to the TT's power? I know the manual TT's have stronger internals and so on. I know the gear ration would be in favor of this but if the thing breaks thats alot of work for nothing.

They did drop the power for the A/T, now that you mention it.

EDIT: It'd be an auto TT trans being mated to the N/A engine. We all know the M/T can hold its own. It would be fine.

yea it would be a TT auto going to a na motor so it would be fine and from my understanding the 5 speeds were the same for na and tt models so should be no issue there i'll just need a stronger clutch set up.

The tt uses a larger sized flywheel and pressure plate which requires the n/a transmission's bell housing to be grinded a little to fit it. will need the starter spacer as well.

NP here is the starter spacer (shim) whatever you prefer to call it lol as far as having to shave the bell housing it's really not that bad as there isn't much needing removed.

I thought that, other than the flywheel and bellhousing size, the two manual transmissions were otherwise the same. There is a difference in the VLSD though.
